Two Recommenders
Request (2) letters of recommendation through the online application. Your references will be contacted directly via email with directions for submitting their letters of recommendation and evaluation checklist on your behalf. Please note: recommendations from family members are not accepted.
Statement of Purpose
A 2-3 page personal statement, in your own words, responding to the following questions:
- Describe how you came to understand your calling to teach. What does that calling mean to you?
- Describe relevant past and present academic experience.
- Describe relevant past and present experience working with children and/or youth.
- Describe a personal experience when you discovered your thinking or way of doing something was wrong, incomplete, or inadequate to the situation. How did you respond? What did you learn?
Resumé
Submit your resumé of professional experience. Use this as a guide.
Interview
You may be invited for an interview. This will be arranged by the department after submission of your application materials.
Required Exams
- Basic Skills – WEST-B Exam or ACT / SAT: Applicants must attempt the WEST-B in reading, writing and math. If you have taken the SAT or ACT in reading, writing and math you may submit those passing scores in place of the WEST-B Exam.
- Content Knowledge – NES or WEST-E: Students must submit passing NES or WEST-E scores in content area of endorsement (Elementary, English, Social Studies, etc.)

- World Language Endorsement - Required Test: ACTFL written and verbal exam. Required only for applicants of MIT Secondary - World Language (Spanish or French) endorsement.
*Evidence of having passed, taken or at minimum scheduled the following exams is required to be eligible for an interview. Evidence of passing scores is required for full admittance to the program.
Scholarship
If you are interested in applying for scholarships, please submit a supplemental document answering the following questions:
- Question 1: What experiences have led you to the decision to pursue a career in education? How has your background influenced your perspective on teaching?
- Question 2: How would receiving this scholarship impact your ability to succeed in the Master’s in Teaching program?
Military-Connected & Veteran Students
- Currently, all active-duty military members must have permission/approval from an Education Services Officer (ESO), Military Counselor, or the Military Service prior to applying.
